The Barrington Hills Police provide the following animal control services:
- Investigation of animal cruelty complaints
- Investigation of dangerous dogs
- Stray dog pick-up
⚠️ Note: Due to the large number of stray cats in the region, the Department no longer responds to calls for lost or found cats.

Lost or Found Animals
While residents are not required to register their pets with the Village, it is strongly recommended that you complete the Pet Management entry in the event your pet is lost or stolen. This entry will assist the Department maintain an accurate database, increasing our ability to quickly reunite lost pets with their families.
Animals without an identified owner are taken to the Animal Care Center of Barrington, where they are held for up to 10 days. If the animal is not claimed during this time, the shelter will place it for adoption.
FEES
Police Department Fee: $50.00 per animal, each time the animal is brought to the station and/or Animal Care Center of Barrington.
Animal Care Center Fees: Additional boarding and miscellaneous fees may apply if your pet does not have current vaccinations or a registered microchip.
Payment: All fees must be paid at the Police Department before proceeding to Animal Care Center of Barrington to retrieve your animal.

Lost Pets

Microchip Your Pet: Make sure your pet has a registered, up-to-date microchip. This is the fastest way to reunite them with you.

Use ID Tags: Keep a collar with an ID tag and your phone number on your pet at all times.

Register animal in Pet Management: Complete entry to assist the Police Department ability to identify your pet if it’s found.

Secure Your Property: Check that fences, gates, and doors are in good repair to prevent accidental escapes.

Keep Recent Photos: Maintain a few clear photos of your pet—especially showing unique markings—that can be shared quickly if they go missing.

Act Quickly: If your pet does get lost, notify the Police Department and local shelters immediately.
