Fireworks Ordinance &
Permit Requirements

Pursuant to Illinois State Law (425 ILCS 35/2) and Village of Barrington Hills Ordinance (8-2-13), it is unlawful for any person, business, club, or organization to offer for sale, sell at retail, use, or discharge fireworks within the Village without a permit.

Fireworks Permit Rules & Regulations

Permits for public fireworks displays may be issued under the following conditions: 

• Qualified Supervision: Each fireworks display must be overseen by an individual designated as competent by the Village Chief of Police.
• Competency Requirements: An individual may only be designated competent if they are employed by a licensed fireworks display company or recognized as an independent contractor who conducts displays for other municipalities or organizations.
• Safety Standards: All fireworks must be of a type and displayed in a manner that does not endanger property, individuals, or the community.
• Application Deadline: Completed applications, including the filing fee, must be submitted to the Village Clerk at least 15 days prior to the scheduled display date.
• Non-Transferable Permits: Permits are valid only for the approved applicant and cannot be transferred.
• Insurance Requirement: Applicants must provide proof of insurance or a certificate of coverage in the amount of at least $5,000,000. The policy must include a hold harmless clause in favor of the Village of Barrington Hills. Proof of insurance must be presented to the Chief of Police prior to the issuance of any permit.

Any violation of Village Ordinance 8-2-13 shall be subject to the Village’s general penalty as provided in section 1-4-1 of the Village Code. The owner of record of the premises upon which any unlawful conduct occurs and any individual or entity engaged in any unlawful conduct, as provided in Village Ordinance 8-2-13, shall be jointly and severally liable for violations of this section.
