Permit Requirements
Pursuant to Illinois State Law (425 ILCS 35/2) and Village of Barrington Hills Ordinance (8-2-13), it is unlawful for any person, business, club, or organization to offer for sale, sell at retail, use, or discharge fireworks within the Village without a permit.
Fireworks Permit Rules & Regulations
Permits for public fireworks displays may be issued under the following conditions
- Qualified Supervision: Each fireworks display must be overseen by an individual designated as competent by the Village Chief of Police.
- Competency Requirements: An individual may only be designated competent if they are employed by a licensed fireworks display company or recognized as an independent contractor who conducts displays for other municipalities or organizations.
- Safety Standards: All fireworks must be of a type and displayed in a manner that does not endanger property, individuals, or the community.
- Application Deadline: Applications must be submitted in writing at least 15 days prior to the scheduled display date.
- Application Review: Action on an application will be taken within 48 hours of submission.
- Non-Transferable Permits: Permits are valid only for the approved applicant and cannot be transferred.
- Eligible Applicants: Applications may be submitted by public, civic, charitable, or private organizations, or by a group of at least three (3) adult individuals.
- Insurance Requirement: Applicants must provide proof of insurance or a certificate of coverage in the amount of at least $5,000,000. The policy must include a hold harmless clause in favor of the Village of Barrington Hills. Proof of insurance must be presented to the Chief of Police prior to the issuance of any permit.
