Forklift Falls from Semi Trailer Injuring Motorist

On Tuesday June 2, 2026, at 4:14 pm, Barrington Hills Police responded to Route 68 (Dundee Road) east of Bateman Road for a vehicle crash with entrapment. Firefighters from the East Dundee Fire Department extricated the driver and sole occupant of a 2010 BMW X5 and transported him to Sherman Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 2006 Kenworth semi-tractor trailer with a forklift attached to the rear, commonly referred to as a piggyback forklift, was travelling east on Dundee Road. The forklift disengaged, and was dragged behind the trailer, eventually disconnecting and crossing into the westbound lane striking the westbound BMW. The driver of the semi was not injured.

The roadway remained closed for approximately three hours during the investigation.  Hanover Township Emergency Services assisted with the road closure.  The crash remains under investigation.
